How does the bible interpret music?

The Bible tells us that at first, God created the heavens and the earth ( Genesis 1:1). Whether we look towards the heavens or towards the earth we see only " magnificence " (Psalms 111), rhythm and melody - works of art.

Thus we find music in the first pages of the Bible: Youbal, son of Lémek, was "the father of all those play the lyre and the flute (Genesis 4:21) God appreciated David's harp and inspired the psalmist the command:" Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. (Psalms 150:3)

Music influenced the people of Israel in all aspects of life: we sang and we played music during the harvests and the grape harvests (Psalms 9:2; 16:10; Jeremiah 31:4-5) the festive holidays (Job 21:12; Psalms 30:12; Jeremiah 31:4-13), weddings (2 Samuel 19:35; Ecclesiastes 2:8; Ezra 24:8) funerals (Mattew 9:23) crowning of kings (2 Samuel 15:10; 1 Kings 1:40; 2 Kings 9:13; 2 Cronicles 23:11) and in their royal courts (Ezra 2:8), to honor the hosts (Genesis 31:27) or to celebrate a victory (Exodus 15:20; Judges 11:34; 1 Samuel 18:6), to exorcise evil spirits (1 Samuel 18:10) or to favour prophetic inspiration (2 Kings 3:15). The departures (Genesis 31:27) as reunions (Judges 11:34-35) were marked by "songs with sounds from the tambourine and harp ". The prodigal son is celebrated with music and dancing (Luke 15:25)

Absence of music was a sign of sadness and desolation (Ezra 24 :8-9) " The enjoyment of tambourines stopped . The enjoyment of the harp stopped "; (Psalms 137:2), (Job 30 :31) " My harp is but an instrument of mourning and my blowpipe can give out only sorrowful sounds

Music was an integral part of the church service (Numbers 10 :10) " David and all the house of Israel played before the Eternal using all kinds of instruments …The book of Chronicles reveals to us that, during David's reign, 4000 levites had for main function to praise the Lord with their instruments (1 Cronicles 23:5; 2 Cronicles 5:12-14, 2 Cronicles 9:10-11)

The apostle Jacques said: " is anybody among you full of joy ? Let him sing hymns " (Song of Salomon : 5.13). In Revelation choirs and trumpets echo and highlight the various stages of the coming of the Kingdom of God.
